Is it possible to take advantage of internal communication? Will the social media help? Such is the subtitle of Prague miniconference, held in Prague at the end of November. The conference was focusing on, in particular, implementation of the Enterprise Social Media into the life of organizations. Speakers and professionals from the field of internal communication conveyed precious ideas and practical recommendations.
Mr. Martin Onofrej, director of PMP Marketing and president of AICO (Association for Internal Communication) was one of the speakers, too. He emphasized, in his presentation, the significant differences between public social media such as Facebook and enterprise social media (ESM – Enterprise Social Media). He then focused on the specific advantages of implementation of social media into the life of organizations and on return on investment in that field as key arguments to gain leadership of enterprises. He explained why it is important to include education, HR, IT, finances and other departments for successful integration of ESM, and how to connect all that by internal campaigns. He clarified why the importance of internal communication (IC) in enterprises has been rising so rapidly in this decade, saying that a successful implementation of ESM into day-to-day life is one of the main competencies of IC. He emphasized that without the actual support of leadership, which is much more than a mere sponsoring, the benefits of ESM will not reveal themselves in organizations. The audience agreed with that.
